Neither path makes you a government supplier. HM Passport Office still accepts or rejects every photo.
A dealer allowance of Photo Codes, usually used with a compatible printer workflow. You pay for the year, then issue codes as customers arrive.
Staff open a web page, prepare the UK digital photo, issue a Photo Code and a print sheet. No desktop install and no pack required to start.
It is not a dealer price list and not an HMPO endorsement. Pack sizes and list prices move — confirm them with your supplier before you renew.
Illustrative dealer examples have sat around 1,500 codes and 5,000 codes in a year (figures in the region of £150 and £260 have appeared on dealer lists — treat those as examples, not a quote). The pack looks cheap per code if you use it. It looks expensive if a quiet high street leaves most of the allowance unused.
Work the sum with effective £/code = pack price / codes actually used. Hardware, media and a missed renewal window sit on top of that number.
Passport Photo Studio is built for shop counters: prepare the digital photo, Photo Code and print sheet in the browser. No DNP-style pack and no desktop install to start. It is a studio customer path, not the free personal tool on this site.
Use this to decide what to try next — not as a promise about acceptance or as a live dealer tariff.
| DNP-style ePassport pack | Passport Photo Studio | |
|---|---|---|
| What you buy | Annual allowance (illustrative dealer examples: 1,500 or 5,000 codes) | Studio workspace access — contact us for current pricing |
| Hardware | Compatible printer, media and that workflow | A modern browser on the till you already have |
| Unit cost if busy | Can be a few pence per code if you use the pack | You are not buying unused codes to “get the rate down” |
| Unit cost if quiet | Rises as unused codes expire with the year | You are not sitting on a large unused allowance |
| Staff learning | Printer habits plus the pack process | Short counter script; browser page |
| Adding a branch | Often another pack or another machine | Multi-location plan — see studio pricing |
